Product ratings, numerical or star-based scores, provide LLMs with quantitative data on customers’ experiences and satisfaction with products, and serve as an easily digestible snapshot of how well a product performs.

By structuring this data alongside standard product attributes (price, specifications, etc.), retailers empower LLMs like ChatGPT to assess products more comprehensively, compare them with competitors, and enhance the purchasing experience.

This new way of thinking redefines the traditional term 'product master data'. We can no longer think of this as what ERP systems hold for your product: SKU, Price.

The first step is to redefine what product master data means to your customers and your business, both now and in the future.

Then it comes down to activating what I call the NEW 3C’s of product master data:

1. Create – build new master data to give LLMs what they need to recommend your products.

2. Capture – capture this new layer of master data in a system that becomes your LLM centre of truth.

3. Circulate – activate scalable methods to broadcast the master data to comply with agentic protocols.
